In expectional circumstances which came as a result of the Equine Influenza in Spring 2007, the Tooheys New Golden Rose was run twice in 2008. The first running, a one-off event on 15 March, saw the Rose taken out by Forensics, which had won the AAMI Golden Slipper a year prior.
The second running of the race in 2008 was held on 30 August - the opening day of Sydney's Spring Racing Carnival. The million-dollar event was won by the Anthony Cummings trained Duporth.
